I set the bar high for my bullet journal supplies and I am proud to say that I have been meticulous in searching for the products that I’m recommending. When I started journaling, one of my concerns was the additional expenses attached to my newfound hobby. I tried my best to find the best products that are worth every penny. After all the trial and error, my list is finally ready! Here are my Must-Have Bullet Journal Supplies.

My Must-Have Bullet Journal Supplies

Notebook

Archer and Olive

Getting the right notebook was a little tricky for me. Yes, there are a lot of notebooks out there but the quality of the product is my priority. If you are looking for the best journal. I highly recommend Archer and Olive.

Their notebooks are a cult favorite for a reason. So without further ado, let’s talk about the key features.

Cover: Their designs are simple and minimal which is perfect for someone like me who swears by the concept of ” less is more”. It is created by a stamp on linen and feels extremely velvety to touch. If you are not a fan of fabric covers, they also offer faux leather ones.

The journal that I got comes with gold gilded edges that are the perfect addition to this stunning notebook.

Pages: They offer a lot of styles to choose from but the one that I have is a dot-grid journal. The pages are 160 gsm and are all resistant to ghosting and ink bleeding.

Another reason why I love this journal is that all the pages lie perfectly straight. Their notebooks are all bound by hand and if you look into their journals closely you’ll be impressed by their amazing craftsmanship.

More Features: This journal also comes with an elastic closure, 2 fabric bookmarks, a pen holder, and an expandable back pocket.

Aside from their amazing products, I love supporting Archer & Olive because of what their company stands for. It’s a women-owned business and they have been extremely vocal with their support for mental health awareness and women empowerment.

Scribbles that Matter

I was surprised upon receiving this notebook because it was actually better than I expected. Showing its picture is not enough to convince you so let’s take it a step further and discuss each part.

Cover: The cover is made from vegan leather and that’s a big pro for me. There are two cover designs to choose from, one is plain and the other one is engraved with doodles designs. I like the second one better. The doodles inspire me to be more creative. HAHA

Pages: The pages are 160gsm and are all numbered. There are also additional pages included such as an index, a test page, and a key page.

Bookmarks: There are two fabric bookmarks included so you’ll never worry about losing yours.

Elastic Closure: I love adding stickers and textured papers to my journal. However, doing so makes my journal a little thicker than usual. Having an elastic closure keeps my pages secured and intact.

Riveted Pen Loop/ Pen Holder: This feature is extremely helpful for traveling. Whenever I have to write in my journal I don’t have to look through my purse for a pen. It makes my life easier!

Expandable Back Pocket: I was blown away when I discovered this feature. At that time, I have been using this notebook for about 3 months and had no idea about this. Since then, I use the back pocket for keeping small items when I’m traveling.

Pens

Having a good pen makes the journaling experience so much better. Sure, you can get the usual ballpoint pens from office supply stores. However, if you want to improve your bullet journal experience, it is best to use good-quality pens. Trust me it makes a huge difference!

Pilot G-Tec

Back then I struggled a lot with my handwriting. My penmanship was so bad that it became my insecurity. One day my sister told me about this pen and it totally changed my penmanship for the better. No JOKE!

Pilot G-Tec

The tip of this pen is similar to a needle. It is very sharp and delicate. Since the tip is so fine, it makes every stoke more defined. This pen is life-changing for me and I highly recommend it.

Sakura Pigma Micron

Sakura Pigma Micron

If you are looking for the best fineliner then this is what I’ll recommend. Unlike the G-Tec this has a more rounded tip which makes it easier to write on paper. This pen glides so smoothly and has a beautiful matte black ink. I use this for creating outlines, doodles, and writing. It is no wonder why it is my most used pen for Bullet Journaling.

Pilot G-2

Pilot G-2

There are two main reasons why I highly recommend this pen. First is the price point. This is an affordable product plus you can easily find this in every office supply store. The second reason is quality. You can always rely on the quality of Pilot products. The color payoff is really good and this pen glides so smoothly on paper. If you’re a beginner in bullet journals this pen is perfect for you.

Muji Gel Ink

Bullet Journal Supplies

Another stationery brand that I love is Muji. What I love about this pen are its pastel look and matte finish. If you are into pastel colors, you will definitely love this. Aside from the colors, its shape is sleek and minimalist. It has a thin and smooth barrel that makes it extremely easy to write with.

White Pens

Someone once told me that white pens are life-changing and I couldn’t agree more! White pens are extremely versatile and can be used in several ways. My two favorite brands for white pens are Sakura Gelly Roll and Uni-Ball Signo.

Bullet Journal Supplies

Sakura Gelly Roll

Sakura Gelly Roll

Sakura Gelly Roll comes in different sizes. I use these pens to either give a definition to my lettering or add more details to my designs. These can be purchased individually but I recommend buying them as a set to save some money.

This is an example of how I use my white pens for details. For my August Bullet Journal Donut Theme, I used my Sakura Gelly Roll for my donut frosting. Looks so yummy!

Uni-Ball Signo

Uni-Ball Signo White

The Uni-Ball Signo has a darker color payoff compared to the Sakura Gelly Roll. This pen is good for correcting small mistakes since its ink is thick and opaque. I always reach out for these pens when I’m writing on a dark background. Since these are much more pigmented than the Gelly Roll, the white color really pops.

This spread is from my Fall Bullet Journal Set-up. I used my Uni-Ball Signo for the white lettering.

Brush Pens and Markers

I tried several products to narrow down my favorites. Back then I thought my only options for markers are the ones that you can get from office supply stores. As I explored the stationery world, I discovered that there are amazing supplies that outperform regular office markers.

Tombow Fudenosuke Hard and Soft Tips

Bullet Journal Supplies

If you are on a hunt for the best black brush pens, look no further. The Tombow Fudenosuke Hard and Soft Tips are a cult favorite for a reason. The Hard Tip as the name suggests has a harder bristle tip which makes it easier to control especially for lettering. The Soft Tip, on the other hand, has a softer end that is perfect for creating broad lines and designs.

Faber Castell Brushpens

Bullet Journal Supplies

The Faber Castell Brushpens are similar to the Tombow Hard Tip. It has that stiff brush edge that makes it so much easier to control. This is also a good pen for beginners.

Prisma Color Markers

Bullet Journal Supplies

If I need to create a design that requires a rich black color, then this is what I’ll reach for. The color intensity of this pen is amazing. My favorite one is the chisel tip. Since its tip can be used for thin and thick lines, it makes coloring so much easier.

Tombow and Artist’s Loft Dual Brush Pens

Bullet Journal Supplies

Though these are two different brands I categorized them together because both are dual-ended. Dual Brush Pens means one end is a brush pen and the other end is a marker. If you are starting off and you just want to buy one product then this option is the best for you. It is like hitting two birds with one stone!

Brush pens

After using both of these markers for months, I don’t really favor one over the other. Both products perform similarly and both have good qualities. The only difference that I could say is the color payoff. If you want to have a darker matte finish then you’ll probably love the Tombow more.

Tombow Dual Brush Pens

Artist’s Loft

I was able to purchase my Black Artist’s Loft at a local craft store however Amazon doesn’t sell it individually. If you are planning to purchase this product I suggest getting the set. (Buying individual items costs more)

Colored Brush Pens

My favorite category is colored brush pens! I love to go all out with my bullet journal spreads and I always go for colorful designs. Choosing one favorite brush pen is impossible for me. But, if I have to choose, here are my top three winners.

Tombow Dual Brush Pens

As I explained earlier, I like Tombow dual brush pens for its dual purpose. I can use it as a brush pen and as a marker at the same time. Since it works in two ways, I consider it a good investment.

Tombow Dual Brush Tips

Though there are other cheaper dual brush pens on the market, I still prefer Tombow for its quality. I’ve had mine for almost 2 years and it still works as if I just got it. The colors are still as pigmented and the brushes don’t get frayed easily. It is truly worth the price!

Tombow Dual Brush Pens

Since the Tombow brush pen is waterbased, it can be used to create watercolor designs. I use these brush pens to create beautiful backgrounds for my bullet journal spreads. This tutorial below is from my Bullet Journal Pastel Theme Set-up.

Artline Stix

The tip of this pen is similar to the Tombow Hard Tip. It is in between a brush and a marker. The tip is stiff like a marker but it is also pointed like a brush.

Artline Stix

Another thing that I like about this is its design. It has this unique broad barrel that is easier to grip for writing. I’ll consider this a good investment for Brush Lettering Beginners. Similar to the Tombow Dual Brush Pens this is also a water-based marker that can be used for watercolor designs and blending.

Artline Stix

Crayola Supertips

It seems like regardless of how I describe this, I still can’t give justice to how good of a product this is. Let me just say it this way,

If you can only purchase one product from this post, please get the Crayola Supertips!

Crayola Supertips

Okay, okay, let me tell you why I love this so much.

Packaging: This pen is convenient for traveling. Tombow Dual Brush Pens are a little too tall and the Artline Stix is too bulky. This design is thin and simple plus it fits on my pencil case perfectly.

Brush Tip: Compared to the other brush pens, this has a more rounded tip which is similar to the usual office markers. However, I can still create both thin and thick lines with this pen. It is versatile and flexible which is perfect for different uses.

Crayola Supertips

PRICE: All things considered, this is definitely a winner. For the price point, it is difficult to beat the Crayola SuperTips. It is just amazing how affordable yet functional this product is. It exceeds my expectations.

Colors: Crayola Supertips come in a set of 50 or 100. It is also a water-based marker similar to the Tombow and Artline Stix.

In this tutorial, I showcase how I create beautiful watercolor designs using Crayola Supertips.

Crayola Metallic Markers

Another product that I love from Crayola is their Metallic Markers. Like the SuperTips this product falls on the more affordable Bullet Journal Supplies which is perfect if you are just starting to explore the creative side of journaling.

Crayola Metallics

Because it is metallic, you can only appreciate the beauty of this marker using a darker background. For the price point, it is amazing how beautiful the colors are.

Crayola Metallics

I used these markers to create the Fall Quotes Spread from my Fall Bullet Journal Theme. I mixed it with the Dong-A Signo White Pen to add more contrast.

Milkliner

The milkliner is a unique spin on the usual highlighter. It has dual edges, one is a Chisel Tip and the other one is a Marker Tip.

Bullet Journal Supplies

What I like about this is the color payoff. It gives this light pastel wash of color that looks clean and dainty. It is not like the usual bright overpowering highlighter which I am not really a fan of.

Bullet Journal Supplies

I was not able to find the exact brand that I have on Amazon. However, the Zebra Pen Midliner is very similar to it. This is my Amazon Recommendation if you want to try these highlighters.

Other Bullet Journal Supplies

Pencils

I like using regular pencils and mechanical pencils. Both have pros and cons but at the end of the day it all comes down to preference. I use the regular pencil for sketching and the mechanical pencil for lettering. I don’t favor one over the other so I have both in my collection.

Erasers

I don’t mind using a rubber eraser. It is easy to find and it does the job well. However, when I discovered the molding eraser, I was surprised by how huge of a difference it makes. Unlike rubber erasers, molding erasers don’t leave rubber residues. The eraser absorbs the pencil marks and it truly makes the paper look clean. However, since it has a gum-like texture, it is not as easy to work with compared to the rubber eraser.

Adhesive Applicator

I was surprised when I discovered that this product exists! I use this for attaching photos or small knick·knacks in my journal. This avoids the mess and wrinkling of pages which usually happens by using wet glue. Plus this is travel-friendly!

Washi Tapes

Washi tapes help in making beautiful spread designs without the hassle. If I feel a little lazy in creating borders/doodles, I’ll use washi tapes and it just gives more life to my spread. It’s a bullet journal essential that I’m sure you’ll love.

Binder Clips

I hate it when my journal pages don’t stay in place. These binder clips help in keeping my spreads together. When I saw that they have these in gold I immediately knew I need them.

Watercolor Brush

Bullet Journal Supplies

This is such a genius product. This brush has an empty barrel that can be filled with water or ink. I personally just use water to keep the brush clean. Instead of constantly dipping the brush in water, this product keeps the brush tip moist. This is perfect for watercolor blending and watercolor lettering.

Here is an example of how I use my Watercolor Brush and my must-have Brush Pens.
